Okay, real talk write. So this is the only thing I bought from Cyber Monday even with the burst
of paranoid energy I got two nights ago at 11:45pm as I frantically searched for something else
to buy. The fact of the matter is (assuming there’s a matter at hand) is that I’ve become very
selective in the past few months. I really haven’t bought anything from Isabel’s Fall collections
with the exception of the Blackson boots…and some of you may remember how that turned out.
My shopping drought is due to the fact that I felt myself getting caught up in needing to buy things
for the blog under the total pretense that I truly needed to as if I needed a new wardrobe for work.
But in reality, when I think about the women who really inspire me with their style, it’s always
those who have a very edited wardrobe with similar looks from day to day.
So in an effort to emulate that because I truly want my closet to inhabit items that I actually wear,
I now ask myself, even as I obsessively stalk these Marni shoes online, will I really wear this?
Am I in it for the long haul or will it just bite the closet dust….

Oh, this is Isabel’s Tifen cropped pullover. Fingers crossed it’s not too close to my skin color
in a boring kind of way you know. :)

  1. Interesting post. I agree. Lately I have not been feeling the need to shop despite the shopping avalanche of emails which hit my inbox every day trying to tempt me. Others whose dress sense inspires me at the moment dress for style not fashion and know their own look very well. I guess this is about being more create and less obvious – I am very turned off by having the hot blogged garment at the moment. Also fashion at the moment is very very samey season to season, you don’t need to keep buying. Love the floral Etoile shirt you posted yesterday, but very similar to last SS12 floral which I already have.

Check out this blog, it’s wonderful for looking at style – http://amandalovesyourstyle.blogspot.co.uk

ps, forget the Marnis, they are clown shoes and you will tire of them quickly. (Sorry!)

  2. The Marni shoes are actually quite comfortable, so why wouldn’t you wear ‘em? ;)

    • I’m not sure about the bulkiness of them and the white sole. I love the look, but afraid once that sole gets dirty they won’t have their great look anymore….

  3. I think it’s great that you’re making more focused purchases as opposed to just buying things that you may never wear. As for that sweater, I think it’s such a great piece and one that you’re going to have for seasons to come. Hope you end up liking it and if you keep it, I look forward to seeing how you style it!

  4. That sweater is so beautiful! I hope that it will look great on you!

  5. I’m kind of having the same problem. I want to buy a lot of stuff, but when I get it, it’s suddenly not that special anymore. It feels like I lost control, I need to stop buying and be creative with the things I have. Those outfits are way more interesting!

i totally agree with you. Surprisingly didn’t buy anything on Cyber Monday, although I am regretting now that I didn’t take advantage of some deals. Since I’m going through the process of re-selling some stuff at the moment, it makes me reevaluate how I shop. I have to now factor in re-sale value if any. I always end up wearing the same thing over and over again. I think with shoes you get more for your money than spending it on clothes. I think shoes are much more justifiable.
As for the Marni shoe, I suggest finding a toe shape that is more classic and slightly more pointed and tapered. These are perhaps too round. I do like the white lug sole.

  8. Soooo intersting, your discussion about needing and wanting and wearing. I’m at that point right now where I’m actually trying to wear EVERYTHING in my closet and to make sure that I rotate lots of stuff and not keep the “good stuff” only for fancy occasions. And as funny as it sounds, I haven’t bought any Isabel Fall clothes yet either but I got the Berry boots (western cone heel with blue stitching) and I have been enjoying them sooooooo much that I need to resole them, already. Have a super fabbb weekend babe! YAhoooooo!! And that sweater u got—-I think I’m going to get it in raspberry…just obsessed with the fit and the look of it! You are gonna ROCK it! ohh ya!

  9. PS. WE DIGGGGG those Marni shoes!!! U will wear them like cray cause they look super comfy! And the more worked in they are…the cooler they are! That’s our motto cause they are well loved!

  10. I totally get what you’re saying here. I’ve been practicing self-restraint for 4 years now. There’s always the urge where “I’ve got a blog and I need to make it interesting” and then the other end of the spectrum “well, take me as I am, a normal girl with a small and edited wardrobe”. I tend to pick only 1-2 pieces from each collection and then get rid of them if they don’t work or I fall out of love with them.
